Pigeon Forge is a town in the northeastern part of Tennessee near Gatlinburg on the edge of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

The population of Pigeon Forge is estimated to be just over 6000 permanent residents.

Pigeon Forge lies at around 1000ft in elevation (305 meters), around 300 feet lower than nearby Gatlinburg.

The town of Pigeon Forge is named after the nearby Little Pigeon River and a iron forge which was operated near the beginning of the 19th century by a settler named Isaac Love. The river was named for the flocks of wild pigeons in the area, which were hunted to extinction by the start of the 20th century.

The most convenient road access to Pigeon Forge is to take exit 407 for Sevierville off Interstate 40 and head south through Sevierville. Drivers crossing over from North Carolina would take US441 from Cherokee through the National Park.

Dollywood Theme Park


Originally a small steam train attraction back in the Sixties, Dollywood has boomed to become Tennessee's most visited ticketed destination. The theme park is named after country music star Dolly Parton, who became involved in the Eighties. Dollywood has around 50 rides, museums and organises some of the most popular festivals in the South. The Dollywood empire also includes a water park (Dollywood Splash Country), resort hotel and mountain cabins.

The Old Mill

The Old Mill is one of the landmarks of Pigeon Forge. It was built near the original iron forge by the son of the smith, William Love. The Old Mill is still in operation and can be visited on a guided tour along with the associated distillery, pottery and various shops at the complex.
